About T-House

T-House is a private residence designed to replace our client’s existing family home of over 15 years. Located 7 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City’s CBD, the house sits within a residential compound amongst established gardens and landscaping. They wanted the house to be open, light and well connected to nature where the boundaries between inside and out were blurred.

Bold contemporary
tropical architecture

Our clients wanted a fresh, new, contemporary tropical home designed to suit their current and future needs - a home that was distinctive and modern without being overstated or ostentatious. The house is composed of two rectangular two-storey volumes in a parallel arrangement linked by a central in-between space. The house appears in white except where space has been carved out to reveal materials used in their natural state. This amplification of materiality emphasises a spatial connection to nature and the outdoors and allows these areas to register patina over time.

Tropical modernist

T-House has been designed as a modernist response to the tropical environment it inhabits. Large overhangs provide protection from sun and rain while brise soleils provide filtered light to the interior maintaining a constant visual connection to the outdoors and nature. Space is split over two levels with the ground floor providing all the main entertaining areas including the entry, kitchen, dining, living and services areas.

The upper storey accommodates two bedrooms and a master suite on opposite sides of the central east-west axis. All rooms are accessed off a generous central hall including the worship area and a second discrete entry serving the massage and salt rooms connected to the master ensuite.

Connecting to nature

The dining room and outdoor entertaining area is large contiguous space flowing from the living room on the south, across the central axis, to the open kitchen and dining room to the north. Along the way, the journey is punctuated by carefully positioned apertures and openings to landscape and sky that maintain an unfolding conversation with the outdoors.

Inside the house, the structure recedes as operable glass walls on the north and east elevations allow the interior to spill out into the garden. Homogeneous stone floors inside and out accentuate the continuity of space and further diminish the boundary between interior and exterior.

Open kitchen & dining

A large central island provides ample space for preparing food together with family and friends. Carrara marble is used for all benches and splashbacks with except for a single large window on the north facade. Cabinets are coloured in light grey to match the veins in the marble, and all appliances are brushed stainless steel.

Attention to detail is ever present as space seamlessly flows into the dining room and beyond to the outdoor terrace.

Master suite

Occupying the northern half of the upper level, the master suite is comprised of equal thirds, bedroom, walk-in robe and bathroom, finished throughout with a minimalist palette while timber flooring and cabinetry to add warmth to this more private zone of the house.

The generous ensuite provides separate areas for a bath, shower, toilet as well as a salt-room and sauna. Landscaping inside and out brings the element of nature into the rooms while serving as a natural barrier to provide privacy from the neighbours.
